New - Windows 9 to be Announced

Microsoft will be announcing their newest version of Windows on Tuesday, September 30th.  It's currently being referred to as Windows 9, but Microsoft has a history of changing it up once in awhile.  (Vista, anyone?).

With the horrible reviews of Windows 8, Microsoft is looking to distance itself as soon as possible with their next version of Windows.  Look for the more traditional start menu to return along with numerous other features.   We'll keep you informed as to what the biggest features are.

Bug Found in iOS 8 HealthKit

If you were looking forward to using Apple's new HealthKit in iOS 8, your going to have to wait a little while longer, due to a major bug in the new HealthKit option.  Because of that, all apps that will sync with HealthKit have been pulled from the App Store.

Apple is working to fix the issue, but a fix likely wont be available until the end of September or early October.

Apple Goes Big

Apple will be begining production of the next iPhone - the iPhone 6.  Sounds like this will come in two flavors (as opposed to the 5C and 5S this year) that being a 4.7 inch and a 5.5 inch phone.

According to Bloomberg:  "The new iPhones will also be rounder and thinner than previous models, said one of the people. Production of the 5.5-inch model is more complicated than the smaller version, resulting in lower production efficiency that must be overcome before manufacturing volume can be increased, said the person."

All signs point to Apple getting into the larger screen market.  But....not everyone wants a larger screen.

Will the new iPhone sizes be the only ones offered?  Will we still be able to get the current 4 inch form factor of the iPhone 5, 5C and 5S after October?  Sound off and let me know what you think...Which size piPhone are you looking forward to?

Amazon Announces their new phone - the Fire

Amazon is entering the already crowded phone market with their Fire Phone.

It has, according to Amazon, "...Dynamic Perspective and Firefly, two new technologies that allow you to see and interact with your world through a whole new lens."

Do we think this will affect the Apple iPhone and Google Android markets?  Personally, I kinda doubt it.  But...time will tell.

Amazon Prime is Adding Music!!

For Amazon Prime subscribers ($99 per year), they are now getting a free music streaming service with their subscription.  Along with free 2 days shipping and Amazon's Video Streaming Service.

Amazon is really pulling all the punched and going after Apple, Samsung and the other heavy hitters in an already crowded market!

Net Neutrality Gets Ugly

In this digital age, it can be nice to receive a letter. Not so much if you're Netflix, and the letter is a cease and desist from an angry Verizon. The contents of said letter are in relation to claims from Netflix (as published on Quartz) that error messages some customers on Verizon were receiving were due to their ISP, and not its own infrastructure. The actual error read "The Verizon network is crowded right now." Verizon on the other hand claims there's "no basis" for the movie streaming service to assert that the errors are coming from its end, but stops short of suggesting it's actually Netflix that's at fault. Barely a month after that deal for direct access, and already the relationship seems to be turning sour.

Update: Netflix has fired back, explaining that "This is about consumers not getting what they paid for from their broadband provider. We are trying to provide more transparency, just like we do with the ISP Speed Index, and Verizon is trying to shut down that discussion."

WWDC/iOS 8 Wish Lists

The WWDC 2014 opening keynote is only a few short days away and that means, if Apple sticks to pattern, we should see the first preview of iOS 8. Since the big redesign was already done last year, that should mean polish and rounding out the feature set is what we get this year. Granted, getting OS X 10.10's big update out the door might mean some iOS 8 features become iOS 8.1 or even iOS 9 features. That can always happen. However, outside the walls of Cupertino we here have the luxury of just wishing for stuff. Just wanting it. And that's what this is — a list of some of the things, big, small, and in-between we'd love to see in iOS 8.
